스승의 방식은 속박되어 있지 않다 그리고 간사함이 없다 그는 빛난다

what is this master, you may call in the heart?

find God in the heart, as what?

 

그대가 가슴에서 스승이라 할 수 있는 것이 무엇인가

가슴에서 신을 발견한다, 무엇으로서?

 

what you find in your heart, 

really inside the heart is no duality

in the mind will be duality

in the heart, there will be not duality

there will not be objects

 

그대가 그대의 가슴에서 발견하는 것,

정말로 가슴 안에는 이원성이 없다

마음에는 이원성이 있을 것이다

가슴에는, 이원성이 있지 않을 것이다, 대상들이 있지 않을 것이다

if you can prepare by just sitting, just open listening, and see where these words are landing in you,

is it food for your mind?

or is it that, in hearing them, they don't remain merely as words but as though they escort you your attention back into some original place

 

그대가 준비할 수 있는 것은, 단지 앉는다, 열려서 듣는다,

그리고 이 말들이 그대 안 어디에 내려앉는지 봐라

그대의 마음을 위한 음식인가

아니면 듣는 중에, 그것들은 단지 말로 남아있는 것이 아니라, 그대를, 그대의 주의를 본래의 자리로 인도하는 것 같은가

 

so don't listen to the externaized attention

listen as though it is totally applicable to the quintessence within you

 

그러니 외부의 주의로 듣지 마라

완전히 그대 안에 있는 본질에 적용시킬 수 있는 것처럼 들어라

 

 

'if a man looks to the world, how can see himself?

the master is never distracted by this or that'

 

'사람이 세상을 보면, 그 자신을 어떻게 볼 수 있는가

스승은 결코 이것이나 저것에 의해 산란하지 않다'

 

not that he close his eyes and doesn't want to see,

no, seeing, they're not binding the senses, they see

they've earned equal seeing

 

그가 눈을 감고 보고 싶어하지 않아서가 아니라,

본다, 그들은 감각을 구속하지 않는다, 그들은 본다

그들은 '언제나 같은 것'을 볼 수 있다

 

'he sees himself, the self never changes'

 

'그는 그 자신을 본다, 자신 은 결코 변하지 않는다'

 

how you see that which never changes

 

결코 변하지 않는 것을 어떻게 보는가

 

'a man who has no doubts and whose mind is one with the self,

no longer looks for ways to find freedom

he lives happily in the world, seeing hearing touching smelling tasting'

 

'의심이 없고, 그의 마음이 자신 과 하나인 사람은

더는 자유를 찾는 길을 찾지 않는다

그는 세상에서 행복하게 산다, 보면서 들으면서 닿으면서 맡으면서 맛보면서'

 

he's not afraid of senses

 

그는 감각들을 두려워하지 않는다

 

'just by hearing the truth, he becomes spacious and his awareness pure

 

'진리를 단지 듣는 것으로, 그는 공간이 되고, 그의 각성은 순수하다

 

the master, the true self, is like a child

he does freely whatever comes in his way, good or bad

by standing on his own, a man finds happiness

by standing on his own, a man finds freedom

by standing on his own, he goes beyond the world

by standing on his own, he finds the end of the way

 

스승, 진짜 자신 은 아이와 같다

그는 무엇이 나타나든 그의 식으로 자유롭게 한다, 잘하든 못하든

그 자신 홀로, 행복을 발견한다

그 자신 홀로, 자유를 발견한다

그 자신 홀로, 세상을 벗어나 간다

그 자신 홀로, 길의 끝을 발견한다

 

when a man relalizes he's neither the doer nor the enjoyer',

 

그가 하는 자도 즐기는 자도 아닌 것을 알아차릴 때'

 

 

there's enjoyment, actions happen,

but he doesn't identity with those actions belonging to me particularly

they happen, they unfold

 

즐김이 있다, 행동들은 일어난다,

하지만 그는 그 작용들이 특히 나에게 속하는 것이라 동일시하지 않는다

그것들은 일어난다, 펼쳐진다

 

 

'the ripples of his mind become still

 

'그의 마음의 물결은 고요해진다

 

the master's way is unfettered

and free of guile,

he shines

 

스승의 방식은 속박되어 있지 않다

그리고 간사함이 없다

그는 빛난다

 

the master is free of his mind, and his mind is free

in his freedom, he plays and has a wonderful time

or he withdraws and lives in a mountain cave

 

스승은 그의 마음에서 자유롭다, 그리고 그의 마음은 자유롭다

그의 자유로, 놀이하고, 멋진 시간을 갖는다

혹은 뒤로 물러나 산의 동굴에 산다

 

if a master encounter a king or a woman or a stranger or someone, he dearly loves, he is without desires

and when he honors God or a holy place or a man burst in the scriptures, there is no longing inside his heart

not at all'

 

스승이 인간이나 여자, 낯선 사람이나 누군가를 만난다면, 그는 몹시 사랑한다, 그에게는 욕망이 없다,

그리고 그가 경전에서 말하는 신이나 신성한 장소, 혹은 인간을 찬사할 때,

그의 가슴 안에는 갈망이 전혀 없다'

 

 

just be the listening

 

단지 귀 기울여 들음이 돼라

 

 

'he is unperturbed

even when his servants despise him, or his wives or son or grandson mock him,

even if his all family makes fun of him, he is undismayed

for him, there is no pain in pain, no pleasure in pleasure

only those who are like him can know his exalted state

he has no form, his form is emptiness

he's constant and pure

 

'그는 교란되어 있지 않다

그를 위해 일하는 일하는 이들이 그를 경멸할 때에도,

그의 부인들이나 아들, 손자가 그를 조롱할 때에도,

그의 온 가족이 그를 놀린다 해도, 그는 동요하지 않는다

 

그에게는, 고통 속에 고통이 없다, 쾌락 속에 쾌락이 없다

오로지 그와 같은 자들이 그의 고귀한 상태를 알 수 있다

그에게는 형상이 없다, 그의 형상은 비어있음이다

그는 변함없고 순수하다

 

he has no sense of duty which only binds man of the world

the master fulfills his duties and he's always untroubled

the fool does nothing, and he is always troubled and distracted

 

그는 세상의 사람을 구속할 뿐인 의무감을 갖고 있지 않다

스승은 그의 의무를 충족시킨다, 그리고 항상 문제 없이 있다

바보는 아무것도 하지 않는다, 그리고 그는 항상 문제를 겪고, 헤맨다

 

the master goes about his business with perfect equinimity

 

스승은 완벽한 평정으로 그의 일을 하고 다닌다

 

he's happy when he sits, happy when he talks, eats,

happy at sleep, happy coming and going'

 

그가 앉을 때, 그는 행복하다

그가 말할 때, 먹을 때 그는 행복하다

잘 때 행복하다, 행복한 오고 감이다'

 

 

how come?

how can someone be in such a harmonious state without force,

if you don't know, you've not been honoring your satsang

if you don't know, not a mental knowing but in the heart of your awareness self

because the mind will come and tell you, 'you gotta do this, gotta do that--',

and like a slave or a fool to the mind, we run about like some ghost, trying to fulfill some vain projections

 

어떻게 그런가

어떻게 누군가 그렇게나 강제 없이 조화로운 상태에 있을 수 있는가

그대가 알지 못한다면, 그대는 그대의 사트상을 소중히 해 오지 않았다

그대가 알지 못한다면, 정신적으로 아는 것이 아니라, 그대의 각성 자신의 중심에서

 

왜냐하면 마음이 나타날 것이다, 그대에게 말할 것이다, '넌 이것을 해야 한다, 저것을 해야 한다--',

그리고 마음의 노예나 바보처럼, 우리는 헛된 투사들을 채우려 유령처럼 뛰어다닌다
