if you put aside all the scriptures, 

doesn't matter what they have said

because if you merely repeat what they have said, you're merely repeating a lot of words

it is not original perception of what is truth

 

그 온갖 경전들을 제쳐놓는다,

그것들이 무엇을 말했든 상관없다,

왜냐하면 그대가 단지 그들이 말한 것을 반복할 뿐이라면, 그대는 많은 말들을 반복할 뿐이다

그것은 진리인 것의 본래의 인식이 아니다

 

you may read all the commentaries of other people,

and quote them and repeat them as an intellectual entertainment,

that's all right on the one hand, but the words are not reality

so one has to be totally free from all that

because truth has no path to it like a ship that has no rudder, it is a pathless land

you have to walk out of darkness, out of your own chaos, out of your own confusion,

out of the forest of ignorance, and come to that by yourself

your own comprehension or perception

 

다른 사람들의 그 모든 말들을 읽을 수 있다,

그리고 인용한다, 반복한다, 지적 놀이로

한편으로는 괜찮다, 하지만 말은 실재가 아니다

 

그래서 그 모든 것에서 완전히 자유로워야 한다

왜냐하면 진리는 그것으로 가는 길을 갖고 있지 않다, 키 없는 배와 같다, 길이 없는 나라다

그대는 어둠에서, 그대 자신의 혼돈에서, 그대 자신의 혼란에서,

무지의 숲에서,

벗어나야 한다, 그리고 그대 홀로 그곳에 이른다

그대 자신의 이해 혹은 인식

 

that demands great inward vitality, strength, and clarity
