왜 그대는 이런 식으로 사는가,

왜 매일 사무실로 가야 하는가,

왜 부인과 남편과 싸워야 하는가, 질투하고

 

그 모든 것이 사랑을 파괴하는 것이다

그리고 사랑 없이, 질서는 없다

그리고 사랑이 있을 때, 자비가 있다

자비가 있을 때, 최상의 지성이 있다

컴퓨터의 인공 지능이 아니라,

생각의 부분 지능이 아니라

 

조건화의 비즈니스를 이해하고, 벗어나 있는

뇌의 그 특질이 있을 때,

침묵은 우주의 엄청난 소리의 일부다

그리고 슬픔의 끝이 있는 곳에, 열정이 있다,

자비는 열정이다, 지성이다,

그러면 그것을 넘어서, 완전한 아무 '것' 아닌 것이 있다

not resist it, not say, 'it is an ugly sound',

an aeroplane passing overhead, thundering,

it is tremendous noise, sound, 

 

소리에 귀 기울여 들어본 적 있는가

그것에 저항하는 것이 아니라, '흉한 소리다'라 말하는 것이 아니라

 

비행기가 머리 위로 지나간다, 천둥이 친다,

엄청난 소음이다, 소리다, 

 

we are noisy, and therefore we seeking silence

so we have separated sound, noise from silence

as we have separated death from living

 

우리는 시끄럽다, 그래서 침묵을 찾는다

소리, 소음을 침묵에서 분리했다

우리가 죽음을 삶에서 분리한 것처럼

 

you understand what i'm saying?

so our brain, our thought rather, it is separating all the time

it is the nature of the thought to separate,

nationally, religiously, you and i, the most learned, the ignorant, 

it is the activity of thought which itself is limited

therefore whatever it does will be limited, will be separative,

all that implies a constant division

so we have separated silence from sound

if you don't separate,

which is not seek silence as away from sound,

then sound is part of silence

i wonder if you see this

when you seek out silence, you are creating disorder

and that disorder you call that silence

order, it comes into being when disorder ends

to find out disorder first, not seek order

그리고 그 질서 아닌 것을 그대는 침묵이라 한다

질서, 그것은 질서 아닌 것이 끝날 때 들어선다

why our lives are in disorder,

and to go into it, find out, wipe it and so on

when there is complete comprehension of disorder, naturally there is order

 

왜 우리 삶은 질서가 없는가

그것으로 들어가라, 발견해라, 닦아내라, 등등

질서 없음에 대한 완벽한 이해가 있을 때, 자연스럽게 질서가 있다

 

now when you don't separate sound from silence, 

there is order, complete order

like the universe is everlastingly in order

sun rise, sunset, the stars, the beauty of new moon, the full moon, 

the whole universe is in order

so it is only human beings in disorder

because they have lost their relationship with nature, they have no beauty,

you understand?

 

그대가 소리를 침묵에서 분리하지 않을 때,

질서가 있다, 완벽한 질서가 있다

우주가 영원히 질서 있듯

해가 뜨고, 지고, 별들, 초승달, 보름달의 아름다움,

온 우주가 질서 있다

그래서 질서가 없는 것은 인간 존재들 뿐이다

왜냐하면 그들은 자연과의 관계를 잃었다, 아름다움을 갖고 있지 않다,

 

이해하는가

 

so the end of the matter, is when there is no self, self-centeredness,

there is something which is totally orderly,

and that order is sound and silence,

and there is that thing that man has sought, which is timeless

unless you do this, 

all that is verbal nonsense

unless you put your mind and the heart to understand your own life,

why you live this way,

why you have to go to the office day after day,

why you have to quarrel with wife and husband, and jealousy, 

 

그래서 문제의 끝은, 자기가 없을 때, 이기성이 없을 때

완전히 질서 있는 무언가가 있다

그리고 그 질서는 소리와 침묵이다,

인간이 찾아왔던 것이다, 

시간이 존재하지 않는 것

 

그대가 이것을 하지 않으면

왜 그대는 이런 식으로 사는가,

all that destroys love!

and without love there is no order

and where there is love, there is compassion

and where there is compassion, there is supreme intelligence

not the artificial intelligence of a computer,

or partial intelligence of thought

but when there is that quality of the brain which has understood the whole business of conditioning and is free,

silence is a part of the enormous sound of the universe

and where there is the end of sorrow, there is passion

compassion is that passion, and is that intelligence,

then beyond that, there is total nothingness
