Krishnamurti 겸손은 오로지 자연스럽게, 초대되지 않고, 쉽게, 올 수 있을 뿐이다

a car in front of us had on the bumper a sticker which said, 'question all authority'

 

우리 앞에 차 한대, 범퍼에 스티커가 있었다, '모든 권위에 의문을 품어라'

 

will you question all authority?

your own authority first,

and the authority of your religion, of your gods, your temples,

question the politicians, everything, question, doubt,

so that your own brain begins to be active

but most of us don't question because we are frightened 

we would rather be told what to do, you know better than i do, so please tell me

 

그대는 모든 권위에 의문을 가질 것인가

그대 자신의 권위를 먼저,

그리고 그대의 종교, 신, 사원의 권위,

정치가들, 모든 것에 의문을 가져라, 의심해라,

그래서 그대 자신의 뇌가 움직이기 시작하도록

 

하지만 우리 대부분은 의문을 품지 않는다, 우리가 두렵기 때문이다

보다는 무엇을 할지 들으려 한다, '내가 하는 것보다 네가 더 잘 안다, 그러니 부디 내게 말해달라'

 

and where there is authority, power, position, status, there is evil

it leads to such misery

but to have humility,

and humility only can come naturally, uninvited, easily,

when you begin to question your own thoughts, your own relationship, your own desires, your own achievements

then out of that comes this quality of humility

 

그리고 권위, 권력, 자리, 신분이 있는 곳에, 사악함이 있다

그것은 너무나 비극으로 이어진다

 

하지만 겸손하기 위해서는,

그리고 겸손은 오로지 자연스럽게, 초대되지 않고, 쉽게, 올 수 있을 뿐이다

그대가 그대 자신의 생각, 관계, 욕망, 성취들에 의문을 품기 시작할 때,

그러면 그것에서 이런 겸손의 특질이 나온다

 

when there is humility, then you are learning

learning is infitie, knowledge is limited

that humility, not bowing down to somebody, that is not humility,

not touching somebody's feet, that's not humility,

going to the temple, all that is rubbish

to have humility, saying, i don't know, let's find out

 

겸손이 있을 때, 그대는 배운다

배움은 무한하다, 아는 것은 제한되어 있다

 

그 겸손은 누군가에게 엎드리는 것이 아니다, 그것은 겸손이 아니다,

누군가의 발에 대는 것이 아니다, 그것은 겸손이 아니다

사원에 가는 것, 그런 모든 것이 쓸데없다

겸손하다는 것은, '나는 모른다, 발견해 보자'라 하는 것이다

 

to be so free to look,

and to have that great simplicity,

not the simplicity of a loincloth,

but the simplicity of a clear mind and clear heart,

then only that which is beyond time come into being

 

그렇게나 자유롭게 바라보는 것,

그리고 엄청난 단순함을 갖는 것,

단순한 옷이 아니라,

명확한 마음과 명확한 가슴의 단순함,

그 때 오로지 시간을 벗어나 있는 것이 존재로 들어선다
