더 나은 세상에서는, 모든 가족이 아이들에게서 배울 것이다

너무 서둘러 아이들을 가르친다

그들로부터 배우려는 이가 없다

아이들은 그대에게 가르칠 것이 많다

그대가 그들에게 가르칠 것은 없다

it happens with the children that you tell them, 'be silent',

because your father is thinking, your grandfather is resting,

'be quiet', 'sit silently'

아이들에게, '조용해라'라 하는데

왜냐하면 아버지가 생각해야 하고, 할아버지가 쉬셔야 하기 때문에

'조용히 해라', '가만 앉아 있어라'

in my childhood, it happened opposite

now i cannot answer why and how

it simply happened

the credit does not go to me

and silence has its vibe

it is infectious

나의 어린 시절에는, 그것이 반대로 일어났다

지금 나는 왜 그리고 어떻게 그랬는지 답할 수 없다

그냥 그렇게 일어났다

not forced,

not because you're saying that i will beat you if you create any nuisance or noise

no, that is not silence

when a child is silent on  his own, enjoying, for no other reason,

uncaused is his happiness

that create great ripples all around

in a  better world, every family will learn from children

you are in such a hurry to teach them

nobody seems to learn from them

and they have much to teach you

and you have nothing to teach them

특정한 일관됨으로 산다

그것이 더 쉽다

하지만 그대가 나와 같은 사람에게 가까이 오면

어려움에 처할 것이다

일관됨에 관한 그대의 생각을 놓거나,

아니면 나를 놓아야 할 것이다

그리고 사람들은 그들 자신의 생각들에 반해 있다

그래서 나를 놓을 수 있다

하지만 그들의 생각을 놓을 수는 없다

people get fixed idead and very soon

and ordinarily it goes perfectly well

because you meet only dead people who are not changing,

who go on saying the same thing their whole life

just like a parrot

they're consistent people

they have all your respects

사람들은 고정된 생각을 갖는다, 그것도 아주 빨리

그리고 보통 그것이 잘 된다

왜냐하면 그대는 죽은 사람들만 만나기 때문이다

변하지 않는, 

그들 평생 같은 말을 하는

앵무새처럼

그들은 변하지 않는 사람들이다

그들이 그대의 존경을 받는다

i seem to you self contradictory, inconsistent for the simple reason

because i have decided not to die before i die

i'm going to live to the very last breath

so you cannot be certain about me till my last breath

after that you can make any image of me

and be satisfied with it

but remember it will not be me

난 그대에게, 자기 모순으로 보인다, 일관되지 않다

왜냐하면 난 죽기 전에 죽지 않으리라 결심했기 때문에

난 마지막 숨까지 살 것이다

그러니

나의 마지막 숨까지 그대는 나에 대해 확신할 수 없을 것이다

그 이후, 나에 대한 이미지를 그대가 갖고,

그것으로 만족할 수 있다

하지만 기억해라, 그건 내가 아닐 것이다

to be with me needs courage

and the greatest courage is to be capable to see the change and to move with it

it may be difficult

it is easy to have one idea once and then be finished

나와 있기 위해서는 용기가 필요하다

가장 큰 용기는,

변화를 보고, 그것과 함께 움직일 수 있는 것이다

그것은 어려울 수 있다

하나의 생각을 갖고, 그것으로 끝인 것이 쉽다

there are people, almost the whole world

who live in a certain consistency, it is easier

but when you come close to a man like me,

you are going to be in difficulty

either you have to drop your idea of consistency

or you will have to drop me

거의 온 세상 사람들이

특정한 일관됨으로 산다

그것이 더 쉽다

하지만 그대가 나와 같은 사람에게 가까이 오면

어려움에 처할 것이다

일관됨에 관한 그대의 생각을 놓거나,

아니면 나를 놓아야 할 것이다

and people are so infatuated with their own ideas

that they can drop me

but they cannot drop their ideas

그리고 사람들은 그들 자신의 생각들에 미쳐 있다

그래서 나를 놓을 수 있다

하지만 그들의 생각을 놓을 수는 없다

빌려 온 모든 가설들,

모아온 아는 것들 모두

그대가 지고 다닌다

산덩이를 끌고 다닌다

그 아래에서 그대는 부서진다

그것을 그냥 치워라

모르는 것으로 있어라

그리고 그 지점에서, 탐구를 시작할 수 있다

you have to find out whatsoever you know whether it is hypothetical,

useful in life

or really truth that you know

that you have felt,

that you have experienced

if it is only a hypothesis, put it aside

and you will feel such an unburdening

그대가 아는 것,

느낀 것, 경험한 것,

그것이 무엇이든

그것이 가설인지,

삶에서 유용한 것인지,

아니면 정말로 사실인지

그대가 봐야 한다

단지 가설일 뿐이라면

치워라

엄청난 짐이 덜어지는 것을 느낄 것이다

borrowed all hypothesis, all knowledge that has gathered there,

and you are carrying

you are dragging a mountain load

you are being curshed under it

just put it aside

빌려 온 모든 가설들,

모아온 아는 것들 모두

그대가 지고 다닌다

산덩이를 끌고 다닌다

그 아래에서 그대는 부서진다

그것을 그냥 치워라

be ignorant

accept that 'i am ignorant'

and from that point, you can start the search

모르는 것으로 있어라

'난 모른다'를 받아들여라

그리고 그 지점에서, 탐구를 시작할 수 있다

every child is going to be burdened

i hope that someday it will not be so

in fact, there is no need

because you can teach very simply that this is not truth, it is only hypothesis

with this hypothesis, it becomes easier

to understand the triangle, the circle and everything

모든 아이가 짐질 것이다

난 언젠가 그러지 않기를 바란다

사실 그럴 필요 없다

사실이 아닌, 가설일 뿐인 것으로 가르칠 수 있다

이 가설로, 쉬워진다

삼각형, 원, 등 모든 것이

but remember that at the base there is a hypothesis

and the whole palace is hypothetical

similiarly your god is hypothesis

and then the whole pyramid of theology

is nothing but based on that hypothesis

하지만 근거에 가설이 있다는 것을 기억해라

궁전 전체가 가설이다

유사하게 그대의 신이 가설이다

그런 다음에는 온통 이론의 피라미드다

가설에 근거한 것 외 아무것도 아니다

if you start looking into things, 

it does not need great intelligence

it needs only simple innocence

to see

그대가 들어댜보기 시작하면

그러는데 큰 지성이 필요 없다

단순한 순수가 필요할 뿐이다

바라보기 위해

이 존재는 그대 없이는, 무언가 빠져 있을 것이다

이 광대한 존재는 그대를 필요로 했다

다른 누구 아닌

그대의 자리는,

그대 이전 비어 있었고

그대 이후 비어있을 것이다

we are very ungrateful to existence

it has given so much to us

and without our asking

and we are such ungrateful creatures

that we don't even bother to look around what the existence is continuously doing for us

the sun, the moon, the stars, the trees, the birds, the animal, the people

you are living in a tremendously beautiful dream

우리는 존재에게 너무 고마워하지 않는다

우리에게 너무나 많은 것이 주어졌는데

게다가 우리 요청 없이도

존재가 우리를 위헤 계쏙해서 주고 있는 것을

돌아보려 하지도 않는다

해, 달, 별, 나무, 새, 동물, 사람들

그대는 엄청나게 아름다운 꿈속에 살고 있다

but you have to be awake about it

then only a greatefulness arises

i call that gratefulness, true religion

a man need not be a christian to be religious

need not be a hindu to be religious

all that he need is a deep gratitude towards existence

하지만 그것에 그대가 깨어나야 한다

그때 감사함이 일어난다

난 그 감사함을 종교라 한다

인간은 종교적이 되기 위해 기독교인이 될 필요 없다

종교적이 되기 위해 힌두교인이 될 필요 없다

필요한 것은 존재를 향한 깊은 감사함 뿐이다

he needs not believe in god

he need not be lieven in heaven and hell

just a simple phenomenon

a deep felt gratitude

that this existence would have been missing something without you

that this vast existence needed you

no one else

신을 믿을 필요 없다

천국과 지옥을 믿을 필요 없다

단지 간단한 현성, 깊게 느껴지는 감사함

이 존재는 그대 없이는, 무언가 빠져 있을 것이다

이 광대한 존재는 그대를 필요로 했다

다른 누구 아닌

and your place was empty before you,

will be empty after you

it is irreplaceable

that gives a great contentment

man's greatest need is to be needed

and when you feel that the whole existence needs you,

otherwise you would not have been here

그리고 그대의 자리는,

그대 이전 비어 있었고

그대 이후 비어있을 것이다

대체될 수 없다

그것은 커다란 만족을 준다

인간의 가장 큰 필요는, 필요해지는 것이다

그리고 그대가, 온 존제가 그대를 필요로 하는 것을 느낄 때

그렇지 않다면, 그대는 여기에 있지 않았을 것이다

효율적이기를 바란다

효율은 기계의 특징이다

기계가 인간 존재보다 효율적이다

효율이 요구되면, 그대는 더 기계적이 된다

더 기계적이 될수록, 그대의 자각은 사라진다

as your awareness is becoming clear, 

your mechanicalness is disappearing

you have to see that awareness and mechanicalness can not exist together

자각이 점점 명확해질수록

그대의 기계성이 사라진다

자각과 기계성은 함께 있을 수 없다는 것을 봐야 한다

in the marketplace, you're not expected to be aware

you are expected to be efficient

efficiency is a quality of machines

machines are more efficient than human beings

because efficiency is required, you become more mechanical

and as you become more mechanical, your awareness disappears

장터에서는, 그대가 자각할 것을 기대하지 않는다

효율적이기를 바란다

효율은 기계의 특징이다

기계가 인간 존재보다 효율적이다

효율이 요구되면, 그대는 더 기계적이 된다

더 기계적이 될수록, 그대의 자각은 사라진다

and your awareness is your real being

by efficiency and mechanicalness, 

you may succeed in earning more money, more power, more prestige, more respectability

but you will lose yourself

그대의 자각이 그대의 진짜 존재다

효율과 기계성으로 그대는,

더 많은 돈을 벌고, 더 많은 힘을 갖고, 

더 많은 특권을 갖고, 더 존경을 받을런지 모른다

하지만 그대 자신을 잃을 것이다

and you are losing yourself very cheaply

what you are gaining in return is worthless

do you know how many people have lived before you on this earth?

do you realize the fact that millions of them were successful people?

millions of them were famous in their time

and now even people don't remember their names

그리고 아주 값싸게 잃을 것이다

돌아오는 것으로 그대가 얻는 것은, 쓸모없다

지구 상에 그대 이전에 얼마나 많은 사람들이 살았는지 아는가

그들 중 무수한 이들이 성공한 이들이었다는 것을 아는가

그들 중 많은 이들이 그들의 시대에 유명했다

지금 사람들은 그들의 이름조차 알지 못한다

they have disappeared like dreams

without leaving any trace behind

we are also going to disappear in the same way

the only few people who have died and yet continue to live on in people's love,

in people's trust

are not very successful, the emperors, the world conquerors ,the richest

그들은 꿈처럼 사라졌다

뒤에 어떤 흔적도 남기지 않고

우리 또한 같은 식으로 사라질 것이다

죽었지만, 계속해서 사람들의 사랑에, 신뢰에 사는

드문 이들이 있다

그다지 성공한 황제, 세계 정복자, 부유한 자들이 아닌

these few people who are in spite of their deaths,

still beat in the hearts of man,

belong to a totally different category

they were the people of awareness

people with soul

그들이 죽었음에도, 인간의 가슴에서 여전히 울리는

그들은 완전히 다른 범주에 속한다

그들은 자각의 사람들이었다

얼 을 지닌 이들

their impact has been so deep

that it will remain unto the last man

gauatam buddha, lao tzu, kabir, christ, al-hillaj mansoor,

these people cannot be forgotten

they will go on living in the deepest parts of your being

그들의 영향력은 아주 깊다

최후의 인간에까지 남아있을 것이다

고타마 붓다, 노자, 까비르, 크라이스트, 만수르,

이 사람들은 잊혀질 수 없다

그들은 그대 존재의 가장 깊은 곳에서 계속 살아갈 것이다

for the simple reason that they never compromised

their awareness for the expectations of the marketplace

그들은 그들의 자각을,

장터의 기대와 결코 타협하지 않았다는 간단한 이유로

so the first thing, you have to become aware

make your awareness more sharp

and next time when you go to the marketplace,

there is no need to become robot-like

perhaps you will not be as efficient as robots - so what?

perhapes you will not be as successful as the mechanical ones - so what?

그래서 먼저, 

자각하게 되어야 한다

그대의 자각을 더욱 예리하게 해라

그런 다음 장터로 가면, 로봇처럼 될 필요 없다

아마 로봇처럼 효율적이지 못할 것이다 - 그래서

기계적인 이들처럼 성공하지 못할 것이다 - 그래서 뭐 어떻다는 건가

let them have their day

and then they will disappear like soap bubbles

don't feel jeslous of them

be compassionate towards them

and remain contented with your awareness

그들이 그들의 날을 갖도록 두어라

그런 다음 그들은 비누거품처럼 사라질 것이다

그들을 부러워하지 마라

그들에게 자비를 가져라

그리고 그대의 자각에 만족하며 남아있어라

risk everything for awareness

but never risk awareness for anything

there is no other value which is higher than awareness

awareness is the seed of godliness in you

when it comes to its full growth, 

you have come to the fulfillment of your destiny

자각을 위해 모든 것을 걸어라

하지만 어떤 것을 위해서도 자각을 걸지마라

자각보다 높은, 다른 가치는 없다

자각이 그대 안 신의 씨앗이다

그것이 완전히 자랄 때,

그대 운명의 달성에 이른다

the deeper your awareness will go deep,

your actions may not be efficient, but  they will have a new quality

the quality of grace and which is far more valuable

no machines can have the quality of grace

your actions, your words will have a beauty of their own

자각이 깊어질수록

그대의 움직임이 효율적이지 못할 수 있다

하지만 새로운 특질을 가질 것이다

우아함 (은혜로움) 의 특질,

그것이 훨씬 더 가치있다

어떤 기계도 우아함의 특질을 가질 수 없다

그대의 움직임, 말은

그것들 자신의 아름다움을 지닐 것이다

the way a man of awareness lives,

each moment is filled with tremendous grace and beauty

it is reflected in his actions

even in the smallest actions,

just in the gesture of his hand or just the way he looks,

in the depth of his eyes or the authority of his words,

or the music of his silence

자각을 가진 인간이 사는 방식,

매 순간이 엄청난 은혜로움과 아름다움으로 차 있다

그것은 그의 행동에서 나타난다

because i have seen so many american books titles how to relax

the very title says that the man knows nothing about relaxation, there is no how

yes it is ok how to repair a car, you will have to do something

but there is no doing as such as far as relazation is concerned

just don't do anything

편안히

미국의 방식으로가 아니라

왜냐하면 어떻게 편안하게 있는지를 제목으로 하는 무수한 미국의 책들을 봤다

그 제목 자체가, 그 사람이 편안하게 있는 것에 관해 아무것도 모른다는 것을 말한다,

어떻게 는 없다

그래 차를 수리하는 방법은 좋다, 그대가 무언가를 해야 할 것이다

하지만 편안하게 있는 것과 관련해서 그렇게 하는 것은 없다

그냥 어떤 것도 하지 마라

i know you will feel a little bit difficult in the beginning

that is not because relaxation is difficult

it is because you have become addicted to doing something

that addiction will take a little time to disappear

처음에는 그대가 좀 어려움을 느낄 것이라는 것을 안다

편안하게 있는 것이 어려운 것이라서가 아니다

그대가 무언가 하는 것에 중독되었기 때문이다

그 중독이 사라지는데 시간이 좀 들 것이다

just be and watch

being is not doing and watching is also not doing

you sit silently doing nothing  witnessing whatsoever is happening

thoughts will be moving in your mind

your body may be feeling some tension somewhere

you may have a migraine

just to be a witness, don't be identified with it

그냥 있어라, 그리고 바라봐라

있는 것은 하는 것이 아니다, 

그리고 바라보는 것도 하는 것이 아니다

고요히 앉아서 아무것도 하지 말고, 일어나는 것이 무엇이든 바라봐라

생각들이 그대의 마음에서 움직일 것이다

그대의 몸이 어딘가 긴장을 느낄 것이다

그대에게 편두통이 일어날 수도 있다

그냥 바라보는 것으로 있어라, 그것과 동일시하지 마라

watch, be a watcher on the hills and everything else is happening in the valley

it is a knack, not an art

meditation is not a science, not an art, it is a knack

just that way

all that you need is a little patience

바라봐라, 언덕 위에서 바라보는 자로 있어라,

그 밖에 모든 것이 골짜기에서 일어난다

요령이다, 예술이 아니다

명상은 과학이 아니다, 예술이 아니다, 요령이다

바로 탁! 그런 식으로

그대에게 필요한 것이라고는 약간의 인내다
