그대가 그대의 가슴 안에서 이해한 것은 가지 않을 것이다 하지만 그대가 그대의 마음으로 아는 것은 갈 것이다

그는 계속해서 말한다,

 

''그대는 하나의 순수다, 그대는 몸을 갖고 있지 않다''

 

그것 자체인 것은 어떤 것도 소유하고 있지 않다는 뜻이다

이것은 우리 대개의 감각을 제거하는 것으로 들릴 수 있다

왜냐하면 아주 많이, 우리는 '나는 몸을 갖고 있다' 고 느끼기 때문이다

사실, 우리는 몸이 우리인 입증이라고 믿는다

 

''그대는 마음이 아니다, 그대는 최상의 현실이다''

and to make matters worse to say, actually there's nowhere where it's not

it's not an object

what kind of search would that be?

 

그대가 찾고 있는 것이, 바로 여기에 있는 것을 향하는 것이라면,

can i touch it? no

can i keep it? you cannot keep

it is maybe keeping you

where would i start to look if it is here?

how you go about looking, but that which is here?

and it can never be there, and it's told, on top of that, it's everywhere

 

그것을 만질 수 있는가 - 아니다

그것을 갖고 있을 수 있는가 - 갖고 있을 수 없다, 

그것이 아마 그대를 갖고 있을 것이다

 

그것이 여기에 있다면, 내가 어디에서 찾기 시작할까

여기에 있는 그것을 그대는 어떻게 찾으러 다니는가

그것은 결코 저기에 있을 수 없다, 게다가 그것은 모든 곳에 있다고 한다

 

is it my mind? no, it is not your mind

it perceives mind

is it my senses? it's not your senses, it perceives senses

is it my thought? it's not your thought, it perceives thought

if you can perceive something, that which perceive cannot be  the thing perceived

 

그것은 나의 마음인가 - 아니다, 너의 마음이 아니다

그것이 마음을 인식한다

그것은 나의 감각인가 - 너의 감각이 아니다, 그것은 감각을 인식한다

그것은 나의 생각인가 - 너의 생각이 아니다, 그것은 생각을 인식한다

 

그대가 무언가를 인식할 수 있다면, 인식하는 그것은 인식되는 것일 수 없다

how to find it?

 

그대는 그것을 아는가

나는 그것 이다, 바로 너처럼

 

그것을 어떻게 발견하는가

 

where will you find the thing that which is perceiving time itself?

and it's outside of time

surely not of the mind

but what other instrument we have to search for things apart from mind and body?

if you are told, mind and body itself is perceived in it,

yet it cannot be perceived dualistically

 

시간 그 자체를 인식하는 그것을 그대는 어디에서 발견할까

그리고 그것은 시간 밖에 있다

확실히 마음의 것은 아니다

하지만 마음과 몸을 떠나서 우리는 무슨 도구를 찾아야 하는가

그대가, 마음과 몸 그 자체가 그것 안에서 인식된다 라 듣는다면

하지만 이원적으로 인식될 수 없다

 

how can one perceive that which is not other?

 

다른 것이 아닌 것을 어떻게 인식할 수 있는가

 

we can study and learn and have knowledge,

but until it is deeply realized experientially, that knowledge also will go

what you have understood inside your heart will never go

but what you know with your mind will go

 

우리는 공부하고, 배우고, 앎을 가질 수 있다

하지만 그것이 깊이 경험상 알아차려질 때까지, 그 앎 또한 갈 것이다

그대가 그대의 가슴 안에서 이해한 것은 가지 않을 것이다

하지만 그대가 그대의 마음으로 아는 것은 갈 것이다

''if water and water are mixed together, there is no difference between one and the other

we hear of terms of seekers of truth,

where is the truth be found?

is truth merely some sacred clustter of pure concepts? that one can find and keep

 

우리는 진리를 찾는 자들의 표현을 듣는다,

진리는 어디에서 발견되는가

진리는 단지 순수한 개념들의 뭔가 신성한 덩어리일 뿐인가, 발견해서 지닐 수 있는

 

does truth have a form that it can be recognized, 'ah, that's the truth'

anything that has a form is bound by time, something to change, this is not 21century idea

anyone who thinks a little bit would know this

there are no thoughts, concepts that can be complete, all are relative

but even to say that must mean that the one who says it is outside of it or beyond it

someone is saying, 'this thing is without limit', then surely the one who's saying that must be themselves without limit

because the relative cannot evaluate the absolute

 

진리는 그것이, '아, 진리다' 라고 알아봐질 수 있는 형상을 갖는가

형상을 갖는 어떤 것이든 시간에 구속되어 있다, 변할 것이다, 이것은 21세기의 생각이 아니다

조금 생각을 하는 누구라도 이것을 알 것이다

완결되어 있을 수 있는 생각, 개념은 없다, 모든 것들이 상대적이다

 

하지만 그렇게 말하는 것도, 그것을 말하는 자는 그것 밖에, 혹은 그것을 벗어나 있어야 한다는 뜻이다

내가 갇히지 않았다면, 나는 결코 자유로워질 수 없다''

 

where in you with such a statement resonate?

because in the state of personhood, of personal identity, surely from time to time we feel bound, trapped, locked into some state of the mode of mind or emotion,

but he's not saying that

 

이런 말은, 그대 안 어디에서 울리는가

 

왜냐하면 제한된 동일시의 제한된 성격의 상태에서는,

왜냐하면 우리는 우리 자신을 형상, 객체로 생각하기 때문이다,

우리는 '하나의 최상의 존재' 라는 말을 들을 때, 그 최상의 존재 또한 형상을 갖는 것으로 느낀다

meaning that which is itself is not possessing anything,

because very much, we feel that 'i have a body'

in fact, we believe that the body is the evidence of who we are

earlier i said, whatever can be perceived through the senses or the mind cannot be that which perceives them

you cannot be anything that you perceive

because anything you perceive is changeful, and you are the witness of changefulness

if you are anything that can be perceived, then when they change or go, you would also be gone

but you are here to say, it is gone

so therefore, that which is observing the changefulness of phenomenal life,

itself is only witness to them

can it itself be witness or recognized?

 

내가 이전에 말한 것처럼, 감각 혹은 마음을 통해 인식될 수 있는 것이 무엇이든, 그것들을 인식하는 것일 수 없다

그대는 그대가 인식하는 어떤 것도 될 수 없다

그대가 인식하는 것은 변한다, 그대는 변화를 바라보는 자다

그대가 인식될 수 있는 것이라면, 그것들이 변하거나 갈 때, 그대 또한 갈 것이다

하지만 그대는 여기에서, 그것이 갔다 라고 말한다

 

그러므로, 현상적인 삶의 변화를 바라보는 그것은

그것 자체는 오로지 그것들을 바라볼 뿐이다

그것 자체가 바라보아지거나 알아봐질 수 있을까
