무한한 의식은 물병을 어떻게 인식할까

 

 

유한한 마음들의 방대한 다수는

그들이 정말로 일시적이고 유한하고 분리되어 있는 자신들이라 믿는다

그 믿음이 설정되자마자,

다른 자는 다른 자가 된다

다양한 모습들 뒤에 있는 존재의 하나임을 느끼지 못한다

그 모든 끔찍한 것들이 일어나는 때인 것이다

갈등, 잔혹함, 불공정, 불친절, 전쟁 등

 

의식이 그렇게 하기로 선택한다고 할 수 없다

그것의 본성은 그 자신을 유한한 마음으로 두고,

형상 안에서, 그 자신의 형상 없는 잠재성을 깨닫는 것이다

 

무한한 선, 무한한 아름다움, 무한한 사랑인 신 이

어떻게 그 안에서 불공정, 불친절, 잔혹함을 만들어내도록 할 수 있을까

now imagiine the infinite consciousness could perceive the jug

where would it perceive it from?

it would have to perceive it from every possible point of view in space

can you imagine what the jug would look like?

 

무한한 의식이 물병을 인식할 수 있는지 상상해보자

무한한 의식은 물병을 어떻게 인식할까

공간에서 가능한 모든 관점에서 인식해야 할 것이다

물병이 어떤 모양일지 상상할 수 있는가

 

it would not look like a jug

it would be just black, there would be no object there

and it's for this reason that i say sometimes

that infinite consciousness by itself knows or perceives nothing

it's only possible to perceive something or know something,

if you stand apart from that thing

we are subjects from whose point of view objects are perceived

 

물병같아 보이지 않을 것이다

그냥 까말 것이다, 대상이 없을 것이다

 

이런 이유로 내가 말하는 것이 있다

무한한 의식 그 자체는 어떤 것도 알거나 인식하지 못한다

어떤 것을 인식하거나 알기 위해서는,

그것에서 떨어져 있어야 가능하다

우리가 주체들, 그 관점에서 객체들이 인식된다

 

although infinite consciousness that mind refers to as everything,

it itself knows nothing or perceives nothing directly

 

마음이 모든 것이라 하는 무한한 의식이지만,

무한한 의식 그 자체는 직접적으로는 어떤 것도 알거나 인식하지 못한다

 

so we could say that infinite consicousness by itself is a realm of infinite potential

in which there is no manifestation

therefore if the potential that lies in consciousness is to be realized,

if there is to be manifestation,

consciousness must seem to cease being the infinite consciousness

it must localize itself as a finite mind

that's what each of us are localized points of view of infinite consciousness, in consciousness

 

무한한 의식 그 자체는 무한한 잠재성의 영역이고,

그 안에 드러나 보이는 것은 없다

그래서 의식에 놓여 있는 잠재성이 알아차려지려면,

드러나 보이는 것이 있으려면,

의식이 무한한 의식인 것을 멈추는 것 같아 보여야 한다

그 자신을 유한한 마음의 위치로 잡아야 한다

무한한 의식의 지역적 관점들이 우리 개개인들이다

 

the vast majority of finite minds believe that they are really temporary finite separate selves

so as soon as that belief sets in, 

then the other becomes other,

we lost this felt sense of unity of being behind the appearance of multiplicity

and that's when all the terrible things happen

the cruelty, the conflict, the injustice, the unkindness, the wars

 

유한한 마음들의 방대한 다수는

so we can't say consciousness choose to do that

its nature to localize itself as a finite mind and to realize its formless potential in form

how god which is infinite goodness, infinite beauty, infinite love could allow a creating

in which there is unjustice, unkindness, cruelty

 

그래서 의식이 그렇게 하기로 선택한다고 할 수 없다

그것의 본성은 그 자신을 유한한 마음으로 두고,

형상 안에서 그 자신의 형상 없는 잠재성을 깨닫는 것이다
