생각이 지성인가

우리는 생각으로 산다

어제, 내일 그리고 오늘

이 과거에서 현재로, 미래로의 움직임,

시간과 생각의 움직임,

그것의 교활함을 갖는 움직임,

그 자신을 적응시키는 그 힘,

 

여느 다른 동물은 하지 않는다, 인간을 제외하고는

 

과거에서 태어난, 생각의 움직임,

그것이 지성인가

is the activity of thought, which is to compare, to identify, to fulfill,

to seek satisfaction, to seek security, 

which is the result, the cause of thinking,

and is thought intelligent?

 

생각 활동,

비교하기, 동일시하기,

성취하는 것,

만족을 구하는 것, 안정을 구하는 것,

 

생각을 하는 원인, 그 결과,

 

생각이 지성인가

 

we live by thought

yesterday, tomorrow and today,

is this movement from the past to the present to the future,

which is the movement of time and thought,

that movement with its cunningness,

with its capacity to adjust itself,

as no other animal does except a human being,

is that movement of thought, born of the past,

is that intelligence?

 

우리는 생각으로 산다

어제, 내일 그리고 오늘

이 과거에서 현재로, 미래로의 움직임,

시간과 생각의 움직임,

그것의 교활함을 갖는 움직임,

그 자신을 적응시키는 그 힘,

will that produce confusion?

 

그것이 혼동을 만들어낼까

 

thought has a causation obviously

'i want to build a house,

i want to drive a car,

i want to be powerful, well-known,

i am dull but i will be clever,

i will achieve, i will fulfill'

all that is the movement of a center from which a thought arises

it is so obvious

 

생각은 원인을 갖고 있다, 명백하게

 

'난 집을 짓고 싶다,

차를 몰고 싶다,

권력을 갖고 싶다, 유명해지고 싶다,

난 둔하지만, 영리해질 것이다,

난 성취할 것이다, 이뤄낼 것이다'

 

그런 모든 것이

한 중심의 움직임, 그것에서 생각이 일어난다

너무 명백한 것이다

 

through the obvious, we're going to penetrate that which may be different

but first we must be very clear of the obvious

 

명백한 것을 통해, 우리는 다른 것일 수 있는 것을 관통할런지 모른다

하지만 먼저 명백한 것에 아주 명확해져야 한다

 

that which has a cause and an effect,

that effect may be immediate, or postponed

the movement from the cause to the effect is time

'i have done something in the past, which was not correct,

because of various causes,

and the effect of that may be, i pay for it,

immediately or perhaps five years later'

 

원인과 그 결과를 갖는 것,

그 결과는 즉시적일 수도 있고, 지체될 수도 있다

원인에서 결과로의 움직임은 시간이다

 

'난 과거에 옳지 않은 무언가를 해버렸다,

여러 원인들 때문에,

그래서 그 결과를 난 치루어야 할 것이다,

바로 혹은 아마 5년 후'

 

so where there is a cause and there is an effect,

the interval,

whether it is the shortest interval,

is the movement of time

 

그래서 원인이 있고, 결과가 있는 곳에

간격이 있다

그것이 가장 짧은 간격이라 하더라도,

시간의 움직임이다

 

so is intelligence movement of time?

 

그래서 시간의 움직임이 지성인가
