자각과 기계성은 함께 있을 수 없다는 것을 봐야 한다

장터에서는, 그대가 자각할 것을 기대하지 않는다

효율적이기를 바란다

효율은 기계의 특징이다

기계가 인간 존재보다 효율적이다

효율이 요구되면, 그대는 더 기계적이 된다

더 기계적이 될수록, 그대의 자각은 사라진다

as your awareness is becoming clear, 

your mechanicalness is disappearing

you have to see that awareness and mechanicalness can not exist together

 

자각이 점점 명확해질수록

그대의 기계성이 사라진다

 

자각과 기계성은 함께 있을 수 없다는 것을 봐야 한다

 

in the marketplace, you're not expected to be aware

you are expected to be efficient

efficiency is a quality of machines

machines are more efficient than human beings

because efficiency is required, you become more mechanical

and as you become more mechanical, your awareness disappears

 

장터에서는, 그대가 자각할 것을 기대하지 않는다

효율적이기를 바란다

효율은 기계의 특징이다

기계가 인간 존재보다 효율적이다

효율이 요구되면, 그대는 더 기계적이 된다

더 기계적이 될수록, 그대의 자각은 사라진다

 

and your awareness is your real being

by efficiency and mechanicalness, 

you may succeed in earning more money, more power, more prestige, more respectability

but you will lose yourself

 

그대의 자각이 그대의 진짜 존재다

 

효율과 기계성으로 그대는,

더 많은 돈을 벌고, 더 많은 힘을 갖고, 

더 많은 특권을 갖고, 더 존경을 받을런지 모른다

하지만 그대 자신을 잃을 것이다

 

and you are losing yourself very cheaply

what you are gaining in return is worthless

do you know how many people have lived before you on this earth?

do you realize the fact that millions of them were successful people?

millions of them were famous in their time

and now even people don't remember their names

 

그리고 아주 값싸게 잃을 것이다

돌아오는 것으로 그대가 얻는 것은, 쓸모없다

 

지구 상에 그대 이전에 얼마나 많은 사람들이 살았는지 아는가

그들 중 무수한 이들이 성공한 이들이었다는 것을 아는가

그들 중 많은 이들이 그들의 시대에 유명했다

지금 사람들은 그들의 이름조차 알지 못한다

 

they have disappeared like dreams

without leaving any trace behind

we are also going to disappear in the same way

the only few people who have died and yet continue to live on in people's love,

in people's trust

are not very successful, the emperors, the world conquerors ,the richest

 

그들은 꿈처럼 사라졌다

뒤에 어떤 흔적도 남기지 않고

우리 또한 같은 식으로 사라질 것이다

 

죽었지만, 계속해서 사람들의 사랑에, 신뢰에 사는

드문 이들이 있다

그다지 성공한 황제, 세계 정복자, 부유한 자들이 아닌

 

these few people who are in spite of their deaths,

still beat in the hearts of man,

belong to a totally different category

they were the people of awareness

people with soul

 

그들이 죽었음에도, 인간의 가슴에서 여전히 울리는

그들은 완전히 다른 범주에 속한다

그들은 자각의 사람들이었다

얼 을 지닌 이들

 

their impact has been so deep

that it will remain unto the last man

gauatam buddha, lao tzu, kabir, christ, al-hillaj mansoor,

these people cannot be forgotten

they will go on living in the deepest parts of your being

 

그들의 영향력은 아주 깊다

최후의 인간에까지 남아있을 것이다

고타마 붓다, 노자, 까비르, 크라이스트, 만수르,

이 사람들은 잊혀질 수 없다

그들은 그대 존재의 가장 깊은 곳에서 계속 살아갈 것이다

 

for the simple reason that they never compromised

their awareness for the expectations of the marketplace

 

그들은 그들의 자각을,

장터의 기대와 결코 타협하지 않았다는 간단한 이유로

 

so the first thing, you have to become aware

make your awareness more sharp

and next time when you go to the marketplace,

there is no need to become robot-like

perhaps you will not be as efficient as robots - so what?

perhapes you will not be as successful as the mechanical ones - so what?

 

그래서 먼저, 

자각하게 되어야 한다

그대의 자각을 더욱 예리하게 해라

그런 다음 장터로 가면, 로봇처럼 될 필요 없다

 

아마 로봇처럼 효율적이지 못할 것이다 - 그래서

기계적인 이들처럼 성공하지 못할 것이다 - 그래서 뭐 어떻다는 건가

 

let them have their day

and then they will disappear like soap bubbles

don't feel jeslous of them

be compassionate towards them

and remain contented with your awareness

 

그들이 그들의 날을 갖도록 두어라

그런 다음 그들은 비누거품처럼 사라질 것이다

그들을 부러워하지 마라

그들에게 자비를 가져라

그리고 그대의 자각에 만족하며 남아있어라

 

risk everything for awareness

but never risk awareness for anything

there is no other value which is higher than awareness

awareness is the seed of godliness in you

when it comes to its full growth, 

you have come to the fulfillment of your destiny

 

자각을 위해 모든 것을 걸어라

하지만 어떤 것을 위해서도 자각을 걸지마라

자각보다 높은, 다른 가치는 없다

자각이 그대 안 신의 씨앗이다

 

그것이 완전히 자랄 때,

그대 운명의 달성에 이른다

 

the deeper your awareness will go deep,

your actions may not be efficient, but  they will have a new quality

the quality of grace and which is far more valuable

no machines can have the quality of grace

your actions, your words will have a beauty of their own

 

자각이 깊어질수록

그대의 움직임이 효율적이지 못할 수 있다

하지만 새로운 특질을 가질 것이다

우아함 (은혜로움) 의 특질,

그것이 훨씬 더 가치있다

 

어떤 기계도 우아함의 특질을 가질 수 없다

그대의 움직임, 말은

그것들 자신의 아름다움을 지닐 것이다

 

the way a man of awareness lives,

each moment is filled with tremendous grace and beauty

it is reflected in his actions

even in the smallest actions,

just in the gesture of his hand or just the way he looks,

in the depth of his eyes or the authority of his words,

or the music of his silence

 

자각을 가진 인간이 사는 방식,

매 순간이 엄청난 은혜로움과 아름다움으로 차 있다

그것은 그의 행동에서 나타난다

가장 작은 움직임에서도,

그의 손동작이나 바라보는 방식,

그의 눈의 깊이나 그의 말의 힘,

혹은 그의 침묵의 음악에서

 

his very presence is celebration

 

그의 존재 자체가 기쁨이다
