i don't know why you read books

we live on other people's ideas

we never read the book which is ourselves

we are the history of mankind

that's obvious

that book is us

and to read that book carefully,

never skipping a word, a page, a chapter,

but to read the whole book

 

난 그대들이 왜 책을 읽는지 모르겠다

우리는 다른 사람들의 생각으로 살고 있다

우리 자신인 책은 결코 읽지 않는다

우리는 인류의 역사다

그것은 명백하다

그 책이 우리다

 

그 책을 주의하여 읽는다

한 자도, 한 페이지도, 한 장도 빼지 않고,

책 전체를 

 

and the reading of that book, cannot be taught by another

no guru, no savior, no master, no psychologist, no professor,

nobody is going to help you read that book

that's the first thing to realize

that you are to read that book by yourself, which is you,

you are that book to read that

 

그 책을 읽는 것은, 다른 이의 가르침으로 가능할 수 없다

어떤 스승도, 구원자도, 심리학자도, 교수도,

아무도 그대가 그 책을 읽도록 돕지 못할 것이다

그것이 알아차려야 할 첫 번째다

 

그 책을 그대 자신이 읽는다, 그대인 것을

그대가 그 책이다, 그것을 읽는다

 

either you read it slowly, page by page, year after year, until you die,

therefore you never read it completely,

or you read it with one glance the whole book,

and that can be done only when the brain is so sharp, so alert,

without any motive, without any direction, alert, awake,

in which there is no contradiction, no sense of hypicracy,

then you can read that book without even looking at it,

the book is over

 

느리게,

한 페이지 한 페이지, 올해, 내년,

그대가 죽을 때까지 

완전히 읽지 못하든

 

아니면 한 번에 책 전체를 읽든

그렇게 될 수 있는 것은, 뇌가 아주 예리하고, 아주 깨어 있고,

어떤 동기도 없이, 어떤 방향도 없이, 깨어 있을 때,

그것에서 갈등이 없고, 위선의 느낌이 없을 때,

그러면 그대가 그것을 보지 않고도, 그 책을 읽을 수 있다
