찾는 것이 파고 들어질 때

깨어나기 위해 할 수 있는 것?

 

모두가, 

이미 그들의 진짜 본성을 알아차린 이들을 제외하고,

모두가, 영적인 것에 관심 있는 이들 뿐 아니라,

깨어나기 위한 무언가를 하고 있다

 

대단히 많은 수의 사람들이 대상에서 행복을 찾고 있다

물질, 활동, 관계들에서.

그들은 깨어나기 위해 찾는 것을 알지 못한다

 

잠시 그 길에 있은 후,

충분히 자주 실망하고,

그러면 그대가 찾는 것을 정제한다,

보통 세상의 것들이라 하는 대상들에서 찾지 않는다,

영적이거나 종교적인 전통들에서 찾기 시작한다

 

영적인 길에서

충분히 자주 실망한다,

그대의 수행에, 스승들에, 가르침에, 전통 등등에

 

그런 다음에는 갈 곳이 없다

그대는 모든 것을 시도했다

그곳이 그대가 무르익는 곳이다

 

그곳이 방탕아가,

그가 가능성들의 끝에 이르렀다,

보이는 세상에서 주어지는 가능성들의 끝에 

그는 돼지들이 먹던 것을 먹었다

 

그리고 더는 갈 곳이 없다

그 순간, 두 가지 가능성이 있다,

좌절하거나,

돌아서거나

 

그것이 그가 했던 것이다, 그는 그의 아버지가 부르는 것을 들었다

물질적인, 영적인 세상에서의 가능성들의 끝에 이르렀다,

그리고 그는 돌아섰다

그것이 집으로 돌아가는 여정의 시작이다

think i was quoting a sufi mystic 

'what we are speaking of here cannot be found by seeking,

and yet only seekers find it'

 

수피 신비주의자를 인용한 것으로 생각하는데,

 

'우리가 여기에서 찾고 있는 것은

찾는 것으로 발견될 수 없다

하지만 찾는 자만이 발견한다'

 

what we are speaking here,

can never be the object of our search

it can never lie at the destiny of our search

it can only be found in the oirgin of our search

 

우리가 여기에서 찾고 있는 것은,

대상이 될 수 없다

그것이 우리가 찾기로 되어 있는 것일 수 없다

 

so anything you can search for,

must bey definition be an object

try now to search for something that has no objective qualities

or to desire something with no objective qualties

it's not possible

 

그대가 찾고 있다고 하면,

정의상 대상이다

 

지금, 대상의 특질이 없는 것을 찾으려 해봐라

혹은 대상의 특질이 없는 것을 열망하려 해봐라

불가능하다

 

so the search for happiness, enlightenment, god,

can never be fulfilled

that's the first part of this statement

and in the second part of this statement, 'but only seekers find it',

the search itself can only be undermined

 

그래서 행복, 깨달음, 신 을 찾는 것이

충족될 수 없다

그것이 이 문장의 첫번째 부분이다

 

그리고 두 번째 부분, '하지만 찾는 자만이 발견한다',

찾는 것 그 자체가 파고들어질 수 있을 뿐이다

 

so when the search is undermined, 

we find what we were seeking at its destiny, at its origin

so it's only seekers that go through this process of undermining search,

and arriving back where we began,

and to know it for the first time

 

찾는 것이 파고들어질 때,

우리가 찾기로 되어 있던 것을 발견한다

파고드는 과정을 거치는, 찾는 자만이

우리가 시작한 곳에 도달하고,

one can do anything to awaken?

everybody without exception,

apart from those who have already recognized their true nature,

not just those people interested in spiritual matters,

are doing something to awaken

the vast majority of people are seeking happiness in objects,

substances, activities, and relationships

they don't know the seeking to awaken

 

(그렇게) 깨어나기 위해 할 수 있는 것?

 

모두가 예외 없이,

이미 그들의 진짜 본성을 알아차린 이들 말고,

then aftern you've been on that path for a while,

you've been disappointed sufficiently often,

then refine your search,

you're seeking not on conventional objects of the world,

you start seeking in the spiritual or religious traditions

 

잠시 그 길에 있은 후,

충분히 자주 실망하고,

그러면 그대가 찾는 것을 정제한다,

보통 세상의 것들이라 하는 대상들에서 찾지 않는다,

영적이거나 종교적인 전통들에서 찾기 시작한다

 

and then after you've been on a spiritual path for,

you've been disappointed sufficiently often

by your practices, your teachers, your teachings, your traditions, and so on

then there's no where to go

you've tried everything

that's when you're ripe

 

영적인 길에서

충분히 자주 실망한다,

그대의 수행에, 스승들에, 가르침에, 전통 등등에

 

그런 다음에는 갈 곳이 없다

그대는 모든 것을 시도해봤다

그곳이 그대가 무르익는 곳이다

 

that's where the prodigal son,

he went to the end of the possibilities

that are on offer in the manifest world

he was eating the fodd that pigs were eating

and there was no else to go,

and that moment, two possibilities,

either despair or to turn around

 

그곳이 방탕아가,

그가 가능성들의 끝에 이르렀다,

보이는 세상에서 주어지는 가능성들의 끝에 

그는 돼지들이 먹던 것을 먹었다

 

그리고 더는 갈 곳이 없다

that's what he did, he heard his father calling

he got to the end of the possibilities in the material and spiritual worlds

and he turn around

that's the beginning of the journey back home
