우리 존재는, 지금, 태어나기 이전, 죽은 후, 같은 상태다

the space in this room does not need to be liberated

from the people and objects that exist within it

or from the four walls within which it seems to be contained

it is already and inherently free of these limitations

the space is in exactly the same condition now

as it was before this room was built

and it will remain such after this room is one day dismantled

 

이 방의 공간은

그 안에 있는 사람들과 물체들,

혹은 방을 가두고 있는 것처럼 보이는 네 벽으로부터 자유로워질 필요 없다

이미, 본래 이런 제한들에서 자유롭다

 

이 방이 만들어지기 이전에 있던 것처럼

공간은 지금 정확히 같은 상태다

그리고 이 방이 어느 날 해체된 후에도 그럴 것이다

 

when this room was built,

space did not suddenly become limited

when this room is demolished, it will not suddenly lose its limitations

and become united with the greater space of the universe

it is already such

 

이 방이 만들어졌을 때

공간이 갑자기 제한되게 되지 않았다

이 방이 무너질 때,

공간이 갑자기 그 제한을 잃고, 더 큰 우주 공간과 하나가 되지 않을 것이다

이미 그러하다

 

it's exactly the same with us

our self, our being does not need to be liberated from throughts and feelings

that take place within us

or from the body within which it seems to be contained

it is already and inhently free

 

우리도 정확히 같다

우리 자신, 우리 존재는

우리 안에서 일어나는 생각과 느낌,

혹은 가두고 있는 것처럼 보이는 몸에서 자유로워져야 할 필요 없다

이미, 본래 자유다

 

our being is in the same condition now

as it was before we were born

and our being will remain as it is after we die

being will not undergo any change

being never undergoes any change

it is already inherently free, whole, indivisible, at peace, lacking nothing

 

우리 존재는 지금 같은 상태다

우리가 태어나기 이전처럼

그리고 우리가 죽은 후에도

 

존재는 어떤 변화도 겪지 않을 것이다

어떤 변화도 거친 적 없다

이미, 본래 자유롭고, 완전하고, 나뉘어질 수 없고, 평화롭고, 결핍되어 있는 것이 없다

 

therefore no effrot is required

in fact, any effort that we make would simply collude the belief

that we are temporary, finite, separate being or self

that needs to be liberated from the content of experience

any effort we make would simply perpetuate that belief

 

그래서 (그러기 위한) 어떤 노력도 필요하지 않다

사실 우리가 하는 노력은

우리가 일시적이고, 유한하고, 분리되어 있는 존재 혹은 자신이라서

경험의 내용에서 자유로워져야 한다는 믿음에 호응하는 것일 뿐이다

우리가 하는 어떤 노력도, 그 믿음을 지속시키는 것일 뿐이다
