싫은 사람의 이미지를 붙들고

그들의 얼굴이,

그대의 온갖 강렬한 혐오, 미움 등등 을 일으키도록 허용한다

그냥 계속해서 바라본다

그런 모든 조건화를 통과하고,

그들인 존재를 느낄 수 있을 때까지

---

 

if we here were with all this understanding that has been shared with us,

that we've been given,

if we here can't love everyone, can't feel behind the activities that

we share our being with everyone

then what chance is there for the world?

 

우리에게 나누어진, 우리에게 주어진,

이 모든 이해가 있음에도

여기의 우리가 모두를 사랑할 수 없다면

우리가 우리 존재를 나누는 활동들, 그 뒤를 느낄 수 없다면

세상에 무슨 기회가 있는가

 

we don't have to like everyone's behavior

but we do have to love everyone

 

모두의 태도를 좋아해야 할 필요 없다

하지만 모두를 사랑은 해야 한다

 

 

take the image of a person that you hate

whether it's somebody you know 

or someone that you hear about in the news

and hold that image of that person in your mind,

and just look at that person

allow the image of their face to provoke all your intense dislike and hatred and so on

just keep looking at it until you can feel through all those layers of conditioning

to the being that they are

 

그대가 싫어하는 사람의 이미지를 잡는다

그대가 아는 누군가든,

뉴스에서 듣는 누군가든

그 사람의 이미지를 마음에 잡고,

그 사람을 바라본다

 

그들의 얼굴이,

그대의 온갖 강렬한 혐오, 미움 등등 을 일으키도록 허용한다

그냥 계속해서 바라본다

그런 모든 조건화를 통과하고,

그들인 존재를 느낄 수 있을 때까지

 

because if that person were to be here, 

we were to say that person,

take the thought i, and tell us about it

to begin with, they tell us about their thoughts and feelings

but if they understood what we meant, 

and they were to go deeply into i, 

their descriptions of their self would be identical to each of our description of our self

 

그 사람이 여기에 있다면

우리가 그 사람에게 말한다면

나 라는 생각을 붙들고, 그것에 관해 말한다

우선 그들이 그들의 생각, 느낌들을 말한다

 

하지만 그들이 우리가 뜻하는 것을 이해한다면

그들이 깊이 '나' 로 들어선다면

그들의 그들 자신에 대한 묘사가,

우리의 우리 자신에 대한 설명과 같을 것이다

 

they would go to the same pristine innocent immaculate infinite being that we go to

so when you're looking at the image of this person, 

go through all the layers of conditioning

until  you come to the being that they are

and feel that you are that being

and you love that being for the same reason that you love yourself

 

그들은,  우리가 가는 무한한 존재인

그 똑같은 본래의 순수한, 결점 없는 것으로 갈 것이다

 

그런 식으로 그대가 그 사람의 이미지를 보면서,

모든 조건화 층들을 통과한다,

그들인 존재에 이른다,

그리고 그대가 그 존재임을 느낀다

그대가 그대 자신을 사랑하는 같은 이유로, 그대가 그 존재를 사랑한다
