죽는 것처럼 보이는 것은 진실로 산 적이 없다

쥭움애 대한 최고의 준비는

삶에서 존재로서 쉬는 것이다

 

the best preparation for death is resting as being in life

and the great opportunity that death affords us

is to realize that what we essentially are doesn't undergo any transformation

so nothing needs to be transformed

you don't need to practice anything to prepare for a transformation

just need to rest as being in life

and realize that being is the one thing that does not get transformed at death

that recognition liberates us from the fear of death

 

그리고 죽음이 우리에게 주는 큰 기회는

본질적으로 우리인 것은

어떤 변화도 거치지 않는다는 것을 이해시키는 것이다

 

그래서 변화되어야 할 것 없다

변화를 위한 준비로, 어떤 훈련을 해야 할 것 없다

단지 삶에서 존재로서 쉬어야 하는 것 뿐

그리고 존재가, 죽음에서 변하지 않는 것을 알아차린다

그 이해가 우리를, 죽음에 대한 두려움에서 벗어나게 한다

 

being does not, god's being does not have to ascend to any higher plane

there are no higher planes than god's being

and there are no other beings that have to ascend to god's being

there is just god's being

and it remains eternally as it is

it knows nothing of death

 

존재는, 신의 존재는

어떤 고차원으로 상승해야 할 필요 없다

신의 존재보다 높은 차원은 없다

신의 존재로 상승해야 하는 다른 존재들이 있는 것이 아니다

그저 신의 존재 뿐이다

그리고 그것은 그것인 채로 영원히 남아있다

그것은 죽음에 대해 아는 것이 없다

 

in fact, resting as being is death

somebody asked ramana maharshi something,

ramana answered, 'i have no idea, you have to ask him'

and the disciple replied, 'but he's dead'

to which ramana replied, 'so am i'

 

사실, 존재로서 있는 것이 죽음이다

누군가 ramana maharshi 에게 물었다

ramana 가 답했다, '난 모른다, 그에게 가서 물어봐야지'

 

제자가 답했다, '하지만 그는 죽었습니다'

ramana 가 답했다, '나도 그렇다'

 

he was already dead

that which could die in him had already died

he had already died as the apparently separate self

he only lived as god's being

and to live as that is to die as the apparently separate self

 

그는 이미 죽었다

그 안에서 죽을 수 있을 것이 이미 죽었다

분리되어 보이는 자신으로서의 그는 이미 죽었다

그는 신의 존재로 살 뿐

그리고 그것으로서 사는 것이, 분리되어 보이는 자신으로서의 그가 죽은 것이다

 

so it's not even that to rest as being is the preparation for death

when we rest as being, we have died

 as the separate self

there's no other transformation to go through

 

그러니 존재로서 쉰다는 것은 죽음을 위한 준비도 아니다

우리가 존재로서 쉴 때, 우리는 죽은 것이다

분리된 자신으로서의 자신이

 

거쳐야 할 다른 변화는 없다

 

die now

it means to know yourself as that which eternally is

in that self knowledge, the self that you seemed to be has died

so die now, that's the best "preparation' for death

don't wait till the body dies

be it now

 

지금 죽어라

그대 자신을, 영원히 있는 그것으로  안다는 뜻이다

자신을 아는 것에서, 

있는 것처럼 보이는 자신은 죽었다

 

지금 죽어라

그것이 죽음에 대한 최고의 "준비"다

몸이 죽을 때까지 기다리지 마라

지금 존재로 있어라

 

that which seems to die never truly lived

and that which lives never truly dies

 

죽는 것처럼 보이는 것은 진실로 산 적이 없다

사는 것은 진실로 결코 죽지 않는다
