you don't have a connection with god because 

you exist and you don't yet have a connection

that's not what i meant

there is no separate being other than god's being, infinite being

either to have or not to have a relationship with god

 

그대는 신과 연결되어 있지 않다

그대가 존재하고, 그런 그대가 신과 연결되어 있지 않다는 뜻이 아니다

신 존재 - 무한한 존재 외

신과 연결되는 혹은 연결되지 않는 다른 존재가 없다

 

in less radical or  advanced traditions than this one,

we do credit the individual with an existence of their own

you deeply believe that you are a separate self

so let's make a concession to you,

let's pretend that you are a separate self,

 

이것보다 덜 급진적이거나 덜 나아간 전통들에서는,

개인을 인정한다

분리되어 존재하는 자신이라고 깊이 믿는다

 

그러면 그렇다고 해보자

 

the very highest state of that separate self would be

devotional relationship with the infinite 

to place itself under the feet of the infinite

it places the individual in the right relationship to the universal

and it is a beautiful state to be in

 

분리되어서 존재하는 자신의 가장 높은 상태는,

무한과의 헌신적인 관계다

자신을 무한의 발 아래 둔다

개인을 전체와의 제대로 된 관계에 두는 것이다

그리고 그렇게 들어서 있는 것은 아름다운 상태다

 

but the individual still exist as an individual apart from god's being

so here we have two beings

let alone 8 billion individual beings

if there are 6 billion individual beings, 

then god's being can no longer be infinite

 

하지만 여전히 신 존재와 별도로 개인으로서 존재한다

두 존재가 있게 된다

80억의 개별적 존재들은 별도다

60억 개인들이 존재한다고 하면,

신 존재는 더는 무한일 수 없다

 

we wouldn't say this to everybody,

at this level of understanding, 

to assert oneself as an individual self with relationship witih god,

is to deny god

so here we're a little radical

we don't make many concessions to the belief in separation

we make a concession, ok investigate

that's the last concession we make to the separate self

 

우리는 이것을 모두에게 말하지는 못할 것이다

이 이해의 단계에서, 자신을 신과 연결하는 개인이라 하는 것은

신을 부인하는 것이다

 

여기에서 우리는 좀 급진적이다

개인이 분리되어 있다고 믿는 것에, 많이 내주지 않는다

하나 양보해서, '좋다, 조사해보자'

최종 양보다

 

don't start getting busy with your prayers and meditation,

no, investigate who you really are

self-inquiry is still a concession to the separate self

but it's the most radical concession, the last concession

 

기도와 명상들로 바빠지는 것이 아니다

그대가 정말로 누구인지 조사한다

 

그것 또한 여전히 분리되어 존재하는 자신이기는 하다

하지만 가장 급진적인, 마지막 양보다

 

sometimes we make that concession here, but

more and more these days, we don't even make that concession

we just do not credit  the separate self with any kind of existence at all

not even self-inquirty

we start with being and we stay there

 

하지만 요즘 우리는 점점 더, 그런 양보조차 하지 않는다

어떤 종류의 존재로도, 분리되어 존재하는 자신을 인정하지 않는다

자신을 조사한다고 하는 것조차 하지 않는다

우리는 이미 있는 것 (존재) 으로 시작하고, 이미 있는 것에서 머문다
