익는다 란, 필요한 시련, 고통, 몸부림에 이른 것이다

 

 

바다의 모든 물고기를 잡을 수는 없다

잡히겠다고 하는 물고기만 잡을 수 있을 뿐이다

이런 것이 일어나야 한다

그대의 가슴에서 열망이, 

그대가 원해야 한다

 

그렇지 않은 다른 이들은, 자유다

한동안 모든 물고기들, 바다의 모든 생명체가 그들 자신의 삶을 계속한다

 

하지만 원하는 그들은

there is something to zoom in on

and we have to be doing that with it a lot

because first, the intellect come in

and take cover and says, 'we got it'

but it didn't go in

 

봐야 할 것이 있다

많은 것들로 우리가 그렇게 해야 하는

 

먼저 지력이 나타난다

'알았다'라 한다

 

하지만 들어서지는 않는다

 

so the tendency is to feel like, 'ok we've covered that subject, let's move on'

sitting where i'm sitting, having this opportunity, i've come to see,

there's a feeling, a cheating,

we don't feel like we intend to,

but in that realm of mind and person, it's like,

'ok been there, done that. next!'

 

습성이,

'이 주제는 해봤으니, 다음!'의 식이다

 

내가 앉아 있는 곳에 앉아 있다, 이 기회를 갖고 있다,

난 보기 위해 왔는데,

속이는 것이 있다

우리가 의도하는 것이라 느끼지 않는다

하지만 그 마음과 제한된 의식의 영역에서,

'해봤으니 그만하자, 다음 것은?'이란 식이다

 

and even in satsang where a very important point is being clarified, 

we have come to the ocean, but nobody's in

everybody's haveing a good time, we have a picnic on the beach,

we're sending postcards about how beautiful it is, how the sunset is,

but nobody's in

and then we're packing up to go

i'm looking at that

 

사트상에서도, 아주 중요한 요지가 명확해지고 있는데,

바다에 와서, 아무도 들어가지 않는다

모두가 즐거운 시간을 갖는다, 해변의 소풍

얼마나 아름다운지, 일몰이 어떤지 엽서를 보낸다

하지만 아무도 들어가지 않는다

그런 다음 짐을 싸서 간다

 

난 그것을 본다

 

while we're there also, while we're here, in this time, 

what is changing from my own perspective,

is that i'm not going to give answer you, and you and you,

as though your individuality matters

your individuality only means your unique subjective perspective

based on your identity as a person, with its own personal issues

so if we just work on this, we solve the personal issue today,

and the personal issue tomorrow

 

우리가 이 시간에 여기에 있으면서,

나의 시각에서의 변화는,

특정한 누군가에게 답을 하는 것이 아닌 것으로

누군가의 개별성이 중요하다는 것처럼

 

개별성이란, 그대의 독특한 주관적 조망,

그대의 동일시와 그것의 문제를 가진

 

우리가 이것에 작업을 한다면,

오늘 그 문제를 풀고, 내일 그 문제를 풀고,--

 

how about in one swoop we can catch everything?

a fisherman goes out with a hook and a bait and he throws the line out

if you go like this, one line, one bait, one fish

if you have a boat, you may go out all day,

you may catch 10 or 12 fishes

 

한 번에 모든 것을 찹을 수 있는 것은 어떤가

 

낚시꾼이 바늘, 먹이를 갖고 나가서 줄을 던진다

그대가 이렇다면, 하나의 줄, 하나의 먹이, 하나의 물고기

보트를 갖고 있다고 하면, 하루종일 나가 있을 수도 있다

10, 12 마리의 물고리를 잡을 지도 모른다

 

but who is that one, who with one hook, can capture the whole ocean?

and what is this ocean?

what is that hook?

who is that fisherman?

i say, the one who comes to satsang

to resolve the whole ocea of samsara to understand your place in it

there is no samsara without you and your mind

 

하지만 하나의 바늘로, 온 바다를 잡을 수 있는 그 자는 누구인가

그리고 이 바다는 무엇인가

바늘은 무엇인가

낚시꾼은 누구인가

사트상에 오는 자라 하겠다

삼사라의 온 바다를 해결하기 위해 오는

그곳에서 그대의 자리를 이해하기 위한

 

그대와 그대의 마음이 없는 삼사라란 없다

 

so in answering like this,

there is a time for that

and will continue now and again

but i want to give the response, the one asnwer for everyone

where is that we all have the same challenge?

that will be smart

who has got that? 

 

그래서 한 명씩 그들의 제한된 의식에 대한 답을 하는 것에는,

그럴 때가 있다

그리고 때때로 계속될 것이다

하지만 나는 모두를 위한 하나의 답을 주고 싶다

 

우리 모두가 같은 시련을 갖고 있는 그것은 어디에 있는가

그것이 영리한 것일 것이다

누가 그럴까

 

the more you individuate, 

'i have been having trouble with my family,

and they don't agree about this path i'm taking,

i should be back in university, --',

whatever it is

what would be the point, to catch everyone?

 

그대가 개별화 할수록

 

'난 나의 가족과 문제를 갖고 있다, 그들은 내가 선택하는 이 길에 동의하지 않는다,

대학으로 돌아가야 하나, --'

 

뭐든

모두를 잡는 그 요지는 무엇일까

 

we cannot catch all the fish in the ocean

can catch only fishes who are up for being caught

because this must happen as a gesture and an urge from your own heart, you want 

the others, they're free

in the meantime, all the fishes, all the creatures in the ocean, 

carry on with your life

but for those who want

then this is the hook that must catch everyone

 

바다의 모든 물고기를 잡을 수는 없다

잡히겠다고 하는 물고기만 잡을 수 있을 뿐이다

이런 것이 일어나야 한다

그대의 가슴에서 열망이, 

그대가 원해야 한다

 

그렇지 않은 다른 이들은, 자유다

한동안 모든 물고기들, 바다의 모든 생명체가 그들 자신의 삶을 계속한다

 

하지만 원하는 그들은

 

그러면 이것이 모두를 잡아내야 하는 바늘이다

 

why not everybody?

no it has to be your time, you have to ripen

cannot just be, 'you're fruit. let's eat'

to ripen means you have come to the necessary challenges, suffering and struggles,

for you to feel, 'i kind of want to go beyond all of this'

whereas there are beings who have still aspirations in the ocean of samsara

they have to

just like you had to go thourgh your own sieving through to find out,

what is it that really matter for me?

 

왜 모든 이에 해당되는 것이 아닌가

그대의 시간이어야 한다, 익어야 한다

그냥, '열매다, 먹자'라 할 수 없다

익는다 란, 필요한 시련, 고통, 몸부림에 이른 것이다

'난 이런 모든 것에서 벗어나고 싶다'라 느끼는

 

아직 삼사라의 바다에서 열망을 갖고 있는 존재들이 있는 반면에

그들은 그래야 한다

그대가 걸러내고 겪어 오면서, '나에게 정말로 중요한 것은 무엇인가'라 발견했듯
